Weiand Tunnel Ram with which Distributor....
I have a old 30 Model A project that I need to get on the road soon. In the old box of collected parts for this project there is a Weiand tunnel ram Id love to use. Im having an issue with a distributor that will fit as it cant be any more than 4.5" in diameter. Id really like to run a box-less HEI unit but not finding anything that meets those requirement. ... Any Ideas? What are you guys running on your TR's? Cam is Crower and they recommend an ignition upgrade so I assumed HEI, Maybe just go with a standard distributor and put a Protronix Module in it?Last edited by M.T.1; 04-27-2013 at 01:05 PM.

Just called White Performance and they will be calling me Monday with the physical dimensions of the distributor. Thanks for the heads up... if it will fit I think I will give it try. Forgot to ask if it has a Tach lead or not?duplicate account

Really not trying to rain on anyone's parade, thing is no matter who's tune, with a tunnel ram you still going to give up some bottom just for a look.
You didn't tell us much about the spec's of the engine,SCR/DCR,heads,cam matching SCR/,bottom end, carb(s). So I have to assume that isn't up to the tasks at hand.Last edited by 1gary; 04-27-2013 at 01:37 PM.

"Give up some bottom just for a look"... Excuse me? Im new here but didn't think this was one of those kind of sites? LOL I don't give a crap what it looks like I want to use it in the vintage class @ the Barona 1/8 mile. whatever?
Parade rain or not, Im looking for a distributor that will fit.
Without getting into all the spring rates and B.S. numbers. The engine is a 68 327 L79 with a level 4 Crower cam. A couple of the cute little "no go Holley's" on top. Ole school reworked 291 camel back heads all hooked up to a vintage but fresh Bang Bang power glide. Its going to be a point A to point B car not a commuter. I would say Bar hopper but that isn't PC anymore. It will run just fine but I need a spark box that will fit.
Thanks for the help here guysLast edited by M.T.1; 04-28-2013 at 12:19 AM.

Well said, M.T.1., well said. A little 327 screamer should indeed "...run just fine" in the eighth. That White Performance Dizzy might be the answer to another guy's question for one of those nifty old dual quad manifolds that won't work any more Now to see if I can find that thread.... Post up some pictures of the A if you get a chance!Roger

How did we get here from the original Question? What ever... guess I should play along being Im the new guy But I gotta to ask, I can tune a car with a key board. Can you tune dual quads with a screw stick? Astro van? for real? Heck you'll need that low end torque to break through the wall of wind.
But seriously I do understand what you were saying and yes Tunnel Rams are not for torque in anyway. It will never be a finely tuned aluminum LS7 but Ive owned a few of those as well, and Ive had issues with them as well. Everything has it purpose. Enjoyed our little banter here hope to learn more about you and your ride in the near future. CheersLast edited by M.T.1; 04-28-2013 at 12:32 AM.

Might also take a look at what Speedway offers, they have an HEI distributor that externally looks like a Vertex Magneto!!! No idea how well they work or what the dimensions are, but it sure would have "the look" to go with an old tunnel ram set-up in an A-Bone!!!!!

I may be way off here but it seems i remember something about a damper mounted trigger system that fires an electronic ignition system.

Heck from what I can see of the engine this thing needs a tunnel ram tween you and I this should be your avatar! I really hope everyone knows Im just twisting your tail here. Hopefully this is all in fun and you have enjoyed it as much as I have. Nice rocket ship you have there and Im sure you have forgotten more about tuning than I will ever know. I just want to get the Ole lady down the strip a little faster than my buddy's... and did I mention Bar hoppin?duplicate account

I saw those and I too like the look but I have to go back to an earlier post... Im really more into function than looks on this car. Its my beater ride and chances are it will be wearing a full hood and patina paint most of the time. Im going through an Anti Shiny stage in my life. I bling out cars all day every day for my customers. Think I'm going through some sort of silent rebellion. I do like the look a lot though. thanksduplicate account

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
