U of V (No, not the University of Vermont---Uses of Velcro

    Common Cocklebur

A little humor, but this is what inspired the developement what what is known as Velcro--

The first I remember seeing any of it was in mid 50s, shoes with a strip that was used to close a pair or shoes that fell some where mid range between shoes with a lace and plane
" loafers " Then it progressed to some jacket and pants as replacement for zippers---------

Now these days, you can find strips of various levels of it in every hardware , home supply, hobby and auto stores with many listings in the cataloques such as McMasterKar

It really stepped up when Nasa started using it for many thinks in the space exploration where it is used froom holding meal trays, chess pieces, etc all the way to a patch in the astronauts helmuts for a nose scratcher.

It was used to hold an artifical heart together on the first heart transplant---

Used in auto industry for many times including upholstery, floor mats

Used in Aviation (Boeing aircraft ceiling panels)

Military----they even have a secret type that is more silent when you rip it apart

Racing??????????I never used it on any of my top fuel cars as I left everything OFF them as possible, but did use it to mount data equipment on the Cart Indy cars in the mid 80s and also on the goKarts my boys raced later---

So---look around and get some pics of where you have seen it and pics or not, please post things you have seen it used for-----------

See?????????Not all weeds were to be smoked!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting Jerry that Velcro is actually a registered name and only Velcro products can use it. Over here others who use that sort of product have named it Hook and Loop . But like the brand name " Crescent " everybody refers to an adjustable wrench as a crescent but it could be a Chinese copy and not a made in USA tool at all.

Did you guys get the Boeing add come up after my post????????????/Mentioned it twice -----------
3440---I don't use the hook and loop type---there are other versions --what I like for something that I want to mount secure but be able to remove quickly is a version that looks like a field of little mushroom shaped soldiers that then plugs together with a receiver type---I do not use the clothing type for anything except the size band on my hat and to hold a bottle of tums to the dash of the truck!!!!!!

I hung the wiring panel under my dash on the back of the firewall with Velcro. It also holds the upholstered panels in the trunk in place.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
