Yeah. you need to get 10 or more posts before pic posting is allowed, it's to keep spammers under control... sometimes if the mods see you're genuine, you'll be able to post pics earlier. You're almost there!

I have never used anything but weld to hold the tube in.

Did you mean they welded the tube together? Or, welded the tube to the pump housing??
Welded to the housing is quite common. A common failure for the tube to slip out, so a tack of weld keeps the parts where they belong.

Go back and read my posts and Pat's posts. Nowhere did either of us say 1/4". Both of us said 3/8" to 1/2". Don't start making stuff up. With a thin pan, the bottom of the pan can suck up against the pickup and shut off supply to the pump. 3/8" to 1/2".

    update

i used a normal gasket , i was affraid i was going to have to remove it ,, its all well no leaks ,, now on start up cold , i was getting 45 to 50 PSI ,, after hot running about 180 to 190 deg it was about 15 PSI but as soon as i give it the gas it shot up to 40 or so maybe more ,, , so i am going to drive it for a while and see what happens ,,
