1947 Ford IFS
I've got a 47 Ford For or and have been debating on using a Mustang IFS but there are so many out there that I was hoping someone that has done the conversion before can give me their opinion on the kits. Bolt in would be nice but weld in is OK too. Trying to decide if its worth doing the IFS instead of a drop axle, reverse eye spring, and sic brake conversion. I figure that by the time I'm done doing all of that, that I will be up around the same price. Thoughts?1947 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor

I don't have a Ford but I do have a 50 Plymouth. I looked at numerous companies that have IFS. Fatman had what I wanted and they were always there for questions I had.

Whomever you decide to get the parts from, I'd say make sure they will be there with any support or even parts in the future!
I see folks buying parts off the big auction sites then searching for help with questions as they have no idea who made the components and that adds a lot of un-needed anxiety.
Don't cheap out with no name stuff, this is you & your family, and possibly my life, you could potentially be gambling with inferior parts! Suspension / Steering / Brakes are key areas where you need to do the best you can. (rant over.. LOL)
There's my two cents, Talk with a few vendors, ask questions and then make your selection(s). Get comfortable with them as when you may need help, you want to feel good that they will be there should you have a problem. Good Luck and let us know what you decide!

If you're talking a good IFS with tubular control arms and forged spindles, it's a good setup---don't forget to get an anti-sway bar with it! As others have cautioned, don't go with the lowest bidder on eBay, they probably won't be around tomorrow to answer questions or take care of parts replacement!!!!! Heidt's is a quality unit, I've installed a bunch of them and never had problems. Some folks who say "MII suspension" get exactly that, stamped arms with stock springs, shocks, and spindles taken off some donor car that suffered through who knows how much abuse in it's first life!!!! I have seen these fail, sometimes with catastrophic results.
I personally don't like a solid axle in the front, they didn't work that great in the 20's when they were designed and they still aren't that much better IMO.... But, if you go with a solid front axle, again watch out for the cheap import junk!!!! In the last couple years there has been a number of broken axles with the expected results!!!!!!
Whichever way you decide to go, shop for QUALITY COMPONENTS from an established company!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Right now I'm leaning towards the Full Tilt Street Rod setup. The price is great and the "Ford into Ford" lower control arms are a great problem solver. Here's the kit....Mustang II IFS front suspension, Hub to Hub IFS, tubular control arms, crossmembers1947 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor

What techinspector said.
We've got XJ6 front and rear in our '47, and XJ6 rear in the Cobra.
They handle well, they stop well, (with the disc brakes,) they're cheap enough, and parts are readily available.

I had a MII hack job in my 40 and I replaced everything but the crossmember, and on that I reinforced it and will be adding more to it as I go. I debated on replacing my crossmember and decided I would leave it as I have plans for a new chassis later on. It is a great idea to shop around and ask questions. Definitely don't buy the first thing you set eyes on. Also try to contact the company before hand and feel them out. I've purchased some junk and didn't know it until looking deeper. Good luck with it!Ryan
