So the Hunt Begins...................
I have decided I'd like to find a 4 door car or rather large 2 door car in the 40's to pre 64. This car will be for the wife and kids (and I). It is such a PITA to get car seats in and out of my 40, I know it'll be easier with a 4 door. I want to keep it pre 64 so we can hit some older style shows. So far I'm finding decent cars in my price range, but they all have no titles. I have found a 46 Studebaker Champion, but it's a 2 door. Hopefully I can find something before January so I can get it togetherish for summer. We shall see.............Ryan

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

If you really like your 40, look at a 41 Nash 4 door. It will surprise you with the details on the fenders, rear deck.
Another odd ball I had was a 36 Hupmobile Aero 4 door sedan. It had sucide doors on the rear and looked for all the world like a 2 door sedan. Lots of excellent details also like curved corners on the doors, flush drip rails.
How about an early 50's rambler wagon? They make good milage with a sbc yet move right out. Think "Father knows best" type of car.
A little later suggestion is a Nova wagon, 69 or so, with a complete 68 Camaro front end installed. Most of the stuff bolts on, only have to make the door lines match. Result is a Camaro Wagon...
Good luck with your search.

I saw this '39 parked on Tilton Road in Northfield NJ. It looked nice so I went back, left my number with the wife, later got a call from the owner of the garage who is selling it for his buddy.

I'm going to harken back about 30 years or so in my auto infatuation. One of the best all around cars I ever had for room and fantastic road manners were Hudson Hornets, '51-3 (didn't care for the styling of the back of the '54). There were other models of Hudsons in those years that had nearly identical styling though the Super Six/Pacemakers/Commodores had smaller six cylinder engines, and some Commodores had a straight 8 (all flatheads), the Hornet was the best. Especially with the 3 speed stick with overdrive (the automatics were a GM Hydramatic which was good, but the overdrive really made the highway drive a dream). Built like a tank (great for safety for the kids), and spacious/luxurious. It would be hard to beat for family use.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Forgot! Stick a 57 Cadillac in the wish list, so much cooler than 57 Chevrolets.

Want another different car, look for a post war forties De Soto or Chrysler fastback sedan - huge interiors, on the line of a Cadillac 60 or 62 series; into the sixties, a '63-4-5 Lincoln with the suicide doors.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.
Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

"It is such a PITA to get car seats in and out of my 40, I know it'll be easier with a 4 door"
May I suggest a solution that will save you at least $100,000......buy another set of child seats and leave them in whatever vehicle that you think is a pain to remove child seats from.....never bought kids seats but they gotta cost less than $300 each for a decent one. Assuming it costs a minimum of $100,000 to build a nice car, this saves you a lot of coin. Then, you have more time to finish a project.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help guys! Robot, the boggest problem is putting 3 car seats and 2 adults in the car. I think I might have a plan since now 2 of the kiddos will be big enough to sit in booster seats. I'd love to find a cool wagon too! We shall see. I just got a big part for my 40 that will more than likely kill this other car idea,Ryan

My first car was a '47 Dodge 4-dr. You could stretch your legs out straight in the back seat.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Richard, did your '47 have that cool speedometer that glowed green when you started off, then glowed yellow between maybe 45 and sixty, then turned red when you took your life in your hands and floor-boarded that mighty flat head six up to whatever top speed you could get?

I got a 871 to put on my 354. I guess a seperate ride for the wife is going to have to wait. Haha I'm going to have to use the money I was going to use to buy her a car to do the blower set up. I guess if worse comes to worse, she can follow me in the Excursion for a year or so.Ryan
