Help on striker pin install for Model A RPU
I'm building a 28 Model A RPU out of a CCPU. I extended the cab 8 inches for more room and I've shaved the doors and have installed Bear Claws from Speedway in them. Is there an "easy" way to mount the striker pin in the wooden door post without too much modification?

I'd frame it in using 1" square tube and lose the wood, but that's likely not the answer you want. Mounting the striker to the wood framing is only going to be as strong as the wood itself. If I were trying to do it keeping the wood I'd look for something like a "T-Nut" that has a threaded tube insert into the wood with a collar on the back side that uses the entire wood member in compression, with a big washer on the door side of the jamb.

Of course, now that I think of it you're going to want to have some adjustment on the vertical and horizontal position of that striker pin, so a T-Nut is not going to work really good. I'd probably drill through a bit oversized, than put a big, heavy washer on the back side with a nut & lock washer. You can adjust up & down to center on the bearclaw, and in & out to match body lines, then tighten it down using the entire wood member in compression.Last edited by rspears; 11-03-2013 at 12:20 PM. Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Bear Claw also sells a plate with a threaded nut on it to install the striker.... Got to say I'm not really in favor of mounting them in wood, but I guess it'd work...Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
