Fiberglass deck lid
Need your advice on getting a fiberglass deck lid to fit properly. Looks like it needs to be pulled in from corner to corner diagnally. Metal I can deal with. This fiberglass stuff is new to me.

How much adjustment are you talking? Depending on the difference it might be better to build up the area surrounding the corner than to try to change the shape of the deck lid. To pull a corner down you're going to have to cut it loose from the inner, making a gap exactly equal to the amount you want it to drop, and glass it back together. At least that's how I would attack it. I built up both top corners of the body about 1/16" using filler with fiberglass in it. Pictures?
Another thing, the guys at N&N told me that they've seen several '32/3/4 deck lids that will flex inward at the corners on a hot day in the sun, and then flex back flush when they cool. It's worse on black, but is not color specific. They suggested that adjustable stops at each corner, holding the panel flush will prevent this happening. I used a 8-32 round head bolt about 1.5" long with the inside part of a tubless tire valve stem for the stop. Rounded bolt head, flat washer, rubber stop, larger flat washer w/ lock nut; then plain nut, washer, hole through drip rail, washer on the bottom and another nut allowing the stop to be adjusted up & down as needed.Last edited by rspears; 01-23-2014 at 02:18 PM. I was thinking of slicing the inner deck lid with a die grinder. In the areas that are the hindge area of the bend. Making a framework inside the trunk to attach turn buckles to pull the corners down. Then with tennsion on it re glass the cuts to hold it in place. Then when I release the buckles it should stay fairly close to where it was inder tennsion.
Just a thought.
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
