    First, welcome to CHR.

Your message is confusing. Are you saying that your 396 got water in the crankcase on the 4th start after you got it, so you bought a new 454 crate motor; now you want to sell the 396 and want to know what it's worth, not knowing where the coolant is coming from? Help us understand what you're asking here.

Best to find out what the source of the leak is first. I'd think if the block or a head is cracked it would be worth more to part it out, salvaging the parts that are still good. Maybe you'll find the leak is something simple/repairable. Then it's obviously worth more. Need more info.

(Day 2) fired back up with exhaust on started tuning carb the fourth time we fired it the oil had water in it checked heads r good (note car was never moved just sitting there this being said motor was cold so it has to be a big crack)

If you have time, then parting it out should bring more return.

If it has new valve guides they are pressed in through a water jacket in the heads. I would check there first. Especially new heads. It is not uncommon. If they or one is leaking alumaseal will usually stop it.

no they did not crack it when they bored it most bbc walls are around 200. thick so .015 a side of the bore is not going to weaken it. but it could of been cracked then bored? yes but the boring bar cutting that bore makes a different sound when its getting bored . should of seen it as well. the iron dust lays out the crack in the bore
