    ECM computer oh brother

OK guys who do I send my computer to. I guess I need it brain washed or flashed. Its a 1994 LT1 computer can't remember the number right now. Just need to know where to start wiring it up. I got a Painless kit for the engine harness. Is there a way to test them to see if they are even good. Before you send them out?

Creep, there's a guy over in MO that seems to rise to the top of all discussions about sorting out GM ECU's. Pretty sure that it's:
    Brendan Patten
    7227 Private Road 1830
    West Plains MO 65775
    brendan@lt1swap.com

If it's the right guy his web site is Programming Services If Mike52 (Mike in the Tampa area) sees this he knows for sure, because he did a lot of research on the LT package. You might PM Mike and confirm, or just give Brendan a shot via e-mail. Good luck!!

there was pretty much a change for every year the LT engines were made---so you do need to verify that the year computer and your engine parts are compatable,
as some were mass airflow and some other--then also you will need the body control unit(theft module) with the correct key(modul in key) and resistor that match. then there is a final fuel control gizzomo that may shut off the fuel in the run position(pump will prime with key on, then quits)
A lot of people are rewiring engines to the later era coil packs to get rid of the opti spark and this is an option I would suggest you consider before yu get terribly envolved with an OBD 1 system---------------I personally don't have any issues where I hate the opti but millions on the net do--

Yeah Jerry I like that coil pack system. That seems a lot better. I wonder if anyone is building a system like that with 1 coil per cylinder. It seems like getting the coils with 2 posts per coil might be hard to find in the future. Mybe not just a guess.
I really like that system though. I think I will change over to that.

Tunes by mail (email) are a hit and miss proposition at best. If you're motivated, you could do it yourself. The OBD1 PCM's are not that difficult at all to tune. If the engine is basically stock, very little needs to be done. There are several, low cost, tuning programs available and the data link is inexpensive as well.

At the very least you will have to disable VATS (vehicle anti theft system) and, basically, turn off items that you no longer use, (EGR, Vac Canister etc) You need to make some decisions regarding fueling and air intake (MAF or speed density).

I opted to learn everything I could and took on the tuning process myself. Happy that I did, as I can "fine tune" the engine to get exactly what I want. The LTx are great engines that are reliable and smooth and make great power.

Here is a video of my tuning process. Engine is a 97 LT4 with PCM converted to OBD1.
