That address is going to cause some heartache for people trying to find CHR, I would say. Only one added "dot" takes you to Hot Rod's site, where you get to pay $84/year for their basic package.Roger

I don't think anyone will confuse the two. Here is free, and getting anyone to pay $84.00 for a digital magazine subscription these days is ludicrous and highly optimistic at best, especially given that their "discounts" are already being beaten by the same sites they are steering your business towards, no subscription necessary.

In my opinion they can keep it, HRM and the rest of the stable of magazines are fine if you want almost 50% of the content being ads. I had a subscription to Rod and Custom and when it was dropped I got stuck with Street Rodder and when the subscription runs out so do I.Last edited by NTFDAY; 01-18-2015 at 06:31 PM.

Ken, I agree. I've had subscriptions to R&C, Street Rodder & Hot Rod for years, and tend to set them aside for "later" when a new issue comes. Recently discovered that I had 16 months of HR and 6 or 7 months of SR "waiting", and then got SR's "special rate" mailing wanting $70 for a 36 issue extension (last time was more like $36 or $40 as I recall...) I passed, and will not renew HR either....
Bill, I'm not saying that anyone will confuse the two, but rather that having their web address only one period different may keep some from finding us initially. No big deal.Roger

Hot Rod Magazine is pretty inexpensive, about a buck an issue when you subscribe for 2 years. Well worth that IMO.

I agree, Hot Rod's price is still a pretty good bargain ($1.17/issue for 12 months) but I expect that will change before long. The under 30 crowd likes the digital presentation, including having video vs stills and hard links to references. I believe the days of our print magazines are numbered....Roger

I'm near the under 30 crowd, and I still prefer a magazine. It's nice not to see 1 million idiotic comments and replies to piss ya off and make you move on to something else.Ryan

I'm not going to say print is dead, but it is on life support. Most of these traditional print media companies are in deep financial hurt and are scrambling to figure out a way to survive going forward. They don't make their money directly on subscriptions, that's just a tool to lure advertising dollars. The internet has changed the face, and function, of advertising...........it's all about the "click through" now, not the number of promised eyes.
I can't help but wonder if the Source Interlink folks approached Brent to buy the URL. It would make sense. That extra dot is not as uncommon as it once would have been, but it's still not the "standard" format most have been accustomed to. I would think that as they promote their site, if they get any attention, it would actually drive lookers to this site. Whether they stay is another matter. I don't imagine Brent has any motivation to capitalize.....if that's even possible.

I have subscriptions to Street Rodder and Chevy High Performance. The main reason I have them is to keep myself updated on what's new and what is trending. I don't mind the ads as I know they are a necessary evil in print publishing.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
