    sealed power E251K30 piston rings

Quick question. I accidentally spilled my piston rings on the work bench and before I put the rings on the piston I wanted to check with you guys to make sure I am doing it right.

I need to know which is the top ring and which is the second ring?

One of the two top rings is a little wider than the other. Does the wider ring go as the first (top) ring?

    Appreciate your help.

    Welcome to CHR, Jeri!

The top two rings in your set are both 5/64” thick and both have a dot on the top of the ring but that is where the likeness ends! The top ring does about 80% of the compression so the installation is critical. The top ring is a lot stiffer that the second ring. The second ring will have a bevel on the on the opposite side of the dot and will be noticeable easier to compress.

See below - From our friends at Hot Rod Magazine.

When installing, put the oil rings on first, then the second ring and finally the top ring.

Remember to offset the end gaps between the top two rings.
