Good to see you here 2lane, don't know your level of experience or ability, also there are some tools required that are only used for trans work, do you have this level of equipment? There are more than a few manuals / books to guide you, Google TH400 overhaul and see the results.
It isn't terribly hard to tear down a Turbo 400. But reassembly with out damaging the seals and o-rings takes some practice and knowing the "feel" and that's where experience comes in.
I don't want to discourage you from doing this, just want you to be honest with yourself about your abilities.

I can see that maybe I should take this to my tranny guy. I still need to know if my new case will work. Can you all give me some direction on that? Only thing I know is that the valve bodies are the same.

IMO you'd be well served to take the cracked case unit and your new case to your tranny guy and have him do it right. If the case is somehow different he should be the guy that can tell you, and he also should be the best guy to get you the case you need if it's not right. My opinion, and what I'd do.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
I didn't know him but followed his posts. True hotrodder, he will be missed. RIP 34_40 MIKE. Condolence to the Mrs. Nolan
