Carb Carnage
Hey guys, thought I'd ask what hot rodders think of this. Looking for some carbs to bolt on. Its a 351 Cleveland I built last year and want the wow factor of this Buddy Bar intake. Already found my Davis Unified Ignition won't fit anymore, but I have another project for that anyways. Priced out a pair of 390 vacuum secondary carbs and its a little out of budjet (STILL NEED FUEL CELL!) so the guy at my local shop says he can get a pair of re-manufactured 600 cfm Holleys for a price in my budjet.... He says I can jet them down and they will be just like them 390's. Is he not as educated as he thinks he is? I don't pretend to know anymore than I do so I'm not afraid to ask for help when I need it. Holleys are all new to me. Appreciate a little guidence, Thanx.

I've never tried goin "down" on the carb size like that bud so i cant really say what he can do to the 600's to make them work for ya but hows the motor built? cam, converter, exhuast and such? have you checked around for a pair of 450cfm holleys?Somewhere out on Woordward ave. cruzin!

If the engine really wants less than 800 CFM, I doubt that a pair of 600s could really work all that well. I suspect it would have real problems transitioning onto the secondaries. In fact, the primaries would big enough that it prob wouldn't behave all that well...
but if the price is really right, it could be an entertaining project...

Don't waste 'yer cash on those 600's. Just wait until you have enough green to get the 390's.

Sorry Streets; as appealing as two predators on top that thing sounds, $540 down there equates to over $900 up here in Canada I'm thinkin' that F.N.G. has the right idea although they are still gonna cost $495 per carb for the street version of that 390. I don't want to short myself for the ignition department, but thats roddin' eh? Maybe I'll be runnin some points this year. Oh Got Engine specs:
351 Cleveland CJ 4v
-.030 over
-4 bolt mains
-speed-pro 7049 dome pistons on cj rods
-crank ground .010 on rods and mains
-double roller chain
-Hi Vol oil pump (rear sump)
-crane 294 hydrolic cam
-manley valve train
-4 V open chamber heads
-has 10.65:1 compression

Dan Try the internet. I wanted to buy a couple of 390 Hollys and found them at about $150.00 each. I had to put new jets in one of them and they ran great, but to much carb for my small block. The only problem with the 390 I found was trying to get them synchronize. Wish I still had them .Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Is that a old Nascar intake, it look's very impressive. If you run the 600 Holley's run the 1850's not double pumpers. You can tee the vacuum secondaries together, so you don't drown the motor with fuel . If you run 2 carbs, don't scrimp on ignition a good vacuum advance distributor and high energy coil shouldn't break the bank.

Pretty unlikely it was from nascar but may have been intended for the circle track though. It was used for drag racing before I bought it (got a great deal!). Its been drilled and tapped for a fogger system too, but I'm not going that far just yet. Tried to find some info on the net 'bout it and found that buddy-bar had cast some of these for ford. Didn't fiind much else though. Think I will take '37's advise and keep lookin for a cheap pair. Got a well equipped shop and I'm pretty handy sometimes.. BTW I never skimp on ignition, just to bad my DUI won't fit, its the best setup I've had for my Fords!! Thanks for all the help so far!

Nope.
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
