    door lock

Need some help guys. On my 40 Ford p/u I'm trying to remove the door lock-lock tumbler mechanism. Anybody do this on a old Ford, I can't see any clips or anything holding it in place. I'm stripping the door down to put BearClaw locking mechanism in them. Thanks.

Is there a small hole in the door frame. A lot of older cars have a set screw that is accessed through a 3/16 hole...................I know that is what our 38 Chev has. Maybe pm Da34 guy, he has a pair of 40 pickups at his place now.........you can find him on the Deuce page............let us know how you make out.

From the factory it should be a slotted head 10-32 pointed set screw which is about 1" long 89658-S7. Ford used the same set screw from 32 past 1940. all your going to see in the hole is the slot since the set screw is not long enough to be proud of the threaded hole. If all else fails to get it out there is only one way I am aware of and that is to heat the threaded section red hot inside the door. You want to be careful not to burn or blister the paint off the door skin. The slotted head of the set screw is easily broken off so make sure NOT to use a lot of force on it.

Here is a few pictures...It could also have a Allen set screw there.

I have what looks just what your picture shows but the screw must be broke off. Drill and easyout is in order I guess. Thanks for the input, it clears it up for me.
