    Question 235 to 350 swap

i have a 1950 chevrolet sedan with a 235. i have never done any sub frame work and was wondering where to begin on this car. i have a 350 out of an 86 p/u and would like to swap it for the 235. what would i have to do and if subframing is the only option, what would be the best donor frame? please help!

That'll be an easy swap, no subframe work needed to be done. best thing to do is get a book, any book, about swappin' engines and start from there. We had a '74 Apollo that had a 235 and put a 350 in it. The only thing that was needed was some new motor mounts. good luck.

AMC 20, but their not very popular. However, i know it can take a 350.

My '48 chev had a 235 in it and none of the motor mounts lined up for a 350/350th. I bought a set of weld in motor mounts from Yogi's and a trans mount from "Chev's of the Fortys" which will allow me to bolt the motor right in. You can get bolt in ones too. By the way that Chevs of the fortys catalog has everything for your '50 too.

As for the front suspension, I am going to use a Pinto (Mustang II) front suspension that has the rack and pinion steering mounted right on it, a real easy application. 80's model camaro subframes also work very well in the old chevys.

230 huh?? then sorry about that kromwel, but for the record I NEVER said I wasn't a jerk. So Streets, the 230 replaced the 235 in production after '62? just tryin' to get my facts straight here.

    Your rear end question.

IF you can find one a 55-6-7 Chevy rear end is a bolt in. They have a removable 3rd member like a Ford 9" and are reasonably strong. Factory ratios from 55-64 included 3.08, 3.36, 3.55, 3.73 and 4.11.

..We call the 292CID a "Tall Deck" also....55 thru 64 rear ends with removable pumpkins are pretty tough...I have hammered the living begeeses outta them...Never broke one..The complete differential assembly from a tri five makes a nice swap for pre 1955 trucks also......
