Bed frame is interesting stuff to work with. Most of it seems hardened, but not uniformly so.
I have a set of TiNi DeWalt bits which are "stepped": that is they have a small starter point, then are flat like an end mill. They seem to do a decent job drilling the stuff..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
