Or you can enjoy your Cobra, and if you decide to sell it stop by your auto parts store, buy a couple of cans of Ford Blue, a roll of tape and a roll of masking paper; degrease & wash the engine at the car wash on your way home; and in a couple of hours of careful spraying your value is back!!Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Nope, don't want any manufacture's color, even Ford blue. I'm actually a gloss red/candy color lover as well. When I custom mixed my body color I saved a qt., but it's rock hard now. I can mix something close enough to paint the motor again. Either way, I may also paint my Tremec and shaft.
How about a candy or metalic red ?
Too much or frickin cool ?
I have a polished stacked EFI injection manifold, and will paint the throttle bodies to match either my body color or the block color if I go that route.
I'll try to get some photo's pasted here. All I have in my gallery are old one's.
Because of bad health issues, this may be my last huhra,....with our Cobra, so I want to do it right. It took me the last 10 years to come back to life after 1, my engine builder taking me for 10 grand and 2, almost dying twice and recuperating time from both.Kevin

See if I've done this correctly, after many years away from posting pics.
Anyway, I bought a new 428FE from Mr. Dove, with his dual quad tunnel wedge intake, water pump, his cj heads, roller rockers etc. Apx 550 HP/TQ, but plan on a chassis dyno this spring. I bought the Borla/twm EFI injection a few months ago. Stoked about it and the prices on both.
Under 10k for almost RTR.

That's a beautiful hue. So much depends in lighting like sun, time of day, or type of indoor lighting, angle, quality of camera, lens used etc, so it's hard to say from pics. Heck, looking at a chip book is the same issues. Always,....look at full sun !
For easy use and touch up anytime,.....I'm thinking of what a fellow member said, to use spray paint like even, Rust-Oleum ?
Can sand any chips, road scars etc, on the block, tranny and anything else, very fast, easy and,...a hell of a lot cheaper.
The only problem with spoof painting, is orange peal. I don't know if you can wet-sand then coat with a clear, like the
base/clear auto paint ? I've hardly ever used spray paint.
Rust-Oleum Automotive 251583 11-Ounce Metal Coat Spray, Red
12.80 per can.

Dont take this wrong, but to me your motor sits way to low in a cobra to make a statement with a wild color as are most cars, a street rod to me is an exception as they tend to stick up without inner fenders etc ex Rogers coupe. What makes cobras and other motors pop is the top end, the valve colors, intake and induction. I myself would head to a bright neutral color, white, silver or even gold on the block (if not factory) and hit your valve covers air cleaner etc with flash, when I mean that head to the plater or powder coater with the intake, valve covers and etc, the injectors speak for themselves. I think most "motor" guys are more impressed with parts and sound and not color.
The next thing you will have to deal with is other cobra and true Ford fans, true its your car and make yourself happy (hey I have a Chrysler in a Ford) but these guys will tell you about it every time you pop the hood, I hear about it and its a street rod and they tend to never have the "correct" engine for the car, my buddy hears about it with his vette too. Have fun and its a cool car anyway you goLast edited by Matthyj; 01-06-2018 at 09:15 PM.
Why is mine so big and yours so small, Chrysler FirePower

It's great that you are asking for our thoughts.
However, it's your boat, float it to suit yourself.
Do what YOU think is cool. So cool that you'll get up in the middle of the night just to pop the hood. So cool you won't care WHAT we think, but you'll share it anyway..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

You're all correct, but forums like here are so wonderful, not only for help, but to give our 2 cenrs on any subjevt, including mine.
There are as many ideas on Hot Rodding, Muscle cars, ratt roding etc, as there are stars in the sky.
Another hobby I love is bench racing with guys. There again, are so many options, too many to count on whwt's better etc.
Several years ago, we raced 360/410 winged dirt sprint cars, and some of the best times was to get several guys together at the shop, stare at our sprint, and discuss different set-ups in the chassis, stagger, engine machining, on, and on and on, then a few beers !
So my point here is, to discuss options and ideas for fun, for all of us. Only problem is, when we get done, how do we drink the beer together ? lol....Kevin

I agree. After I had to sell my first 428FE to help pay my extreme medical bills ($26,000 of the total $267,000 at the Mayo Clinic for26 days) I wanted to build a original 427 side oiler or one of the three new aluminum side oilers in my Cobra. I bought a alum. block from Genesis, sent it and all the rotating assembly to a noted FE engine builder, cash money, but he stole it all. Lost 10k.
I was very surprised that a couple of months ago, he's trying to pay me back. We'll see.
Anyway, I like a lot of what Carroll built, and tried to do the same with mine, but with some bling.
I had to use a 427 or 428FE, 15" original type wheels & tires etc. (I have a set of "Billboard" tires)
Radio delete too. lol
I almost,.....built a Ford 460 blocked, punched out to 514ci, making 625 HP/TQ (+) for around $11,000.
Cando that for an FE, but,....I couldn't do that, had to build a expensive FE. Until,....finding Mr.Dove's engine !
I wanted over 600 HP, especially TQ, but over 500 is fine because it's built by Dove and,the beautful and STUDLY COOL stacked injection ! Lol
Even though my health is bad, I CAN'T WAIT,....to get it all done, looking, feeling, hearing and driving the Cobra again, after the last very bad ten years ! woot-woot....lolKevin

Oh, forgot. You can see quite a bit of the engine looking down into the bay, especially the front, the bell housing and part of the tranny. Plus, the underside is very important, at least for me. lolKevin
