I haven't had real good luck heating tint. My heat gun is pretty serious though so maybe a lighter duty one would work. If you're a pro you probably know the point in which the tint will get pliable and where it won't bake the 2 layers together.
A tip a guy showed me was to spray soapy water over the outside of the window you're wanting to tint. Lightly rub a squeegee over the tint and this will help the tint form to the glass. Use the edge of the squeegee and push the tint towards the weatherstripping. Go 1/8" or 1/4' past where the tint contacts the weatherstripping. Use a new or sharp razor blade and cut the tint. Now you can put it on the inside of the window. You use the soapy water again and start in the center and use the squeegee to work out the water. Use the squeegee edge to push the tint up to the weatherstripping. Once you get it where you want it, trim the tint. This guy liked using Joy brand dish soap.
It is a rather big pain in the rear but can be done if you can find some patience.Ryan

OK, what to do for defroster lines? I've seen many a rear window with bubbles around the defroster lines..

Screw this !! I tried to do one corner window with the soap and heat trick, It's no mystery that when I mention these corner windows to a professional, the phone goes quiet on the other end. It's $188 for new back and corner windows that are factory tinted, I think that's what I'll do.Seth

I tried it again this morning and gave up on it again, I wonder if I had 3M film if it would shrink better.I listed the ones I have for sale and if I sell them I'll order the tinted ones. I did think about taking them out and trying again but then decieded not to. It will be about 50-80 dollars to boot if mine sell and depending how much they cut me down on price.Seth

I sold em in about an hour on Facebook and ordered new ones today. A $55 dollar swap, that's cheap enough for meSeth

That was way easier, My boy and I swapped em out in about an hour. The only bad thing is my chrome zipper strips don't butt up like they used to so I may need to replace them. They may look darker in this pic than they are, they block 35% of the light. We took it to town tonight to check it out and it does make a difference with the sun beating on your back. I'm going to tint the side windows with the film I got. It's darker than the legal amount but I've gotten by for many years with my T/A with rolling down the windows in town, which we would normally do anyway. The T/A windows are much darker than 35%.Seth

Looks good. It's a pity none of us simply recommended selling the old ones and buying new ones..

It looks good. Just a word of caution since you're used to the T/A and tint. The truck has wings. They give it away when you're window is down.
I bet you'll be fine since it is an older vehicle. I never had 1 issue with my 40 and all the windows were 5% including part of the windshield.Ryan

Hey there! I just stumbled upon this post, and I'm new to this forum, but I thought I'd chime in. If you're looking for a good brand for window tint, I've heard good things about 3M and SunTek. As for tinting curved glass, it definitely takes some skill and patience, but it sounds like you've been doing your research! Have you considered getting sun shades for your car as well? They can help keep your car cooler and protect the interior from sun damage. I recently got some from SnapShades (https://snapshades.com/) and they've been a game-changer for me. They're super easy to install and remove, and they fit perfectly on my car's windows. Anyway, good luck with your window tinting project! Let us know how it turned out.Last edited by ThaliaAtkins; 04-28-2023 at 11:15 AM.

Hey Thalia, welcome to CHR. Just a heads up, the thread you've responded to is nearly 5 years old, May of 2018. Now that said, you offered a couple of references that might help someone who's looking for info down the road, so it's all good.
Maybe start a new thread to tell everyone about your project or dream, and if you're working on something everyone loves pictures!! Again, welcome, and hope you stick around for a while.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
Thank you Roger. .
