Decked?? What does it mean?
Hi, I'm new here and finding LOTS of good info on this forum! I have a question, what does it mean when the engine has been "decked"? The serial number on my 287 (tab in front of Cyl #2) is blank. Does it mean it has been "shaved" or "decked"? And what is the purpose for doing that?Last edited by dannys27; 04-22-2004 at 12:11 PM.

It's possible that it has been "decked"
They do that to insure that the heads have a "flat" surface to bolt to. It is also a way to increase compression, but most shave the head surface to do this.

Wouldn't that considerably increase compression as well?

Then, of course, there's decked as in removing the trim and lock cylinder from the decklid of your coostom. Which, in turn, is complimented by the hood being "nosed", again, removing trim. But then, I can hardly wait to see what pro has for nosed!Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

For sure!! I recall Jim's torsion bar suspension on at least one of his builds, but I'm not sure which one! Maybe the Track T?? He's a talented builder.
