Hey I just bought a '73 Firebird Esprit. How do I find out for sure which engine is in it? Isn't there something stamped on the block or something. And if I have the original Pontiac 350 would it be a good idea to swap it out for a SBC, just thinking about easy of finding parts, cost, etc..

Any info would be appreciated. This is my first second gen F-body.

sure you could swap it for a SBC & it might be cheaper. but in my opnion, would be way cooler with Pontiac power. remember, this is coming from a Chevy guy

Ok, I know what it SHOULD have but I want to make sure what exactly is in there now. Any way to check that?

get the casting #s off the block and post, we'll tell ya what it is

I'm not a complete retard but this is my first older car. The other car I have is a '95 Z28. Yeah I'm defintely not a rich bastard but it doesn't bother me. I'd like to keep hanging out at this site, hopefully I can get something out of it. Yeah, I've never heard of Ol' Skool Rodz, I'll have to check that out. Thanks again.

Stick with what you got.

Slap on a pair of aluminum heads, a high performance intake, a double pumper 4 barrel, a mild street cam, headers, etc.

no, a Pontiac 350 is not a small block Chevy, whole differant animal

What's different about them,..............
they're both GM 350's.

The Cylinder heads are different............ thats one thing.

Chevy 350 is 4.00X3.48 bore & stroke
Pontiac 350 is 3.876 X 3.750
totally differant engines, bore spacing , bell patern, dist rotation, Buick, Chevy, Olds & Pontiac all had 350s within GM, but were all differant engines
