    Exhaust Manifold help!!!

hey fellas, i'm getting to the point of my engine swap where i need to start thinking about exhaust. (350 into a 1950 chevrolet styline) i know that sanderson makes a set of headers for this app., but i can not afford them at the moment. i've been told that a L.H. manifold from a 55-57 chevy will work or a rear dump 70's manifold will work. question: is the 55-57 manifold the ramhorn style b/c i keep seeing 2 types on Ebay, the ramhorn and another real short rear dump style and they both claim to be 55-57???? i could also use some tips on what models had the rear dump in the 70's. thanx in advance.

The 55 to 57 are not rams horns and they are not that big of manifolds if I can remember correctly, the rear dump manifolds you would probably need would be from a 68 and up nova and same era chevelle and maybe 73 and up truck or van. The rams horns were used on the 60s big cars and 67 to 72 trucks, hope this helps.

The 55-57 manifolds are not the same. The 55 and 56 265 manifolds were total different than the 57 283 manifolds. The 265 manifolds were like a log on the side of the engine with the exit at the front. They are highly restrictive and I wouldn't use them unless it was a last resort. In 57 they changed to the "rams horn" type. They dumped straightdown in the center. The left one had a flange made to take a donut type gasket. The right one was totally flat and used a flat gasket between the manifold and the heat riser. The right manifold remained the same until about 69 when the design changed completely. The left manifold changed in about 65 . It was still a rams horn but the outlet angled toward the rear. There were some trucks that had rams horns that both sides angled toward the rear. The best one were made for Corvettes. They had 2 1/2 inch outlets and dumped straight down. You can still buy them as they are being reproduced.
