    Fan Spacing

After putting the new motor/radiator in the 66 t bird last summer i noticed a over heating problem while the car is sitting still. At anything over 15mph its fine but idle or in traffic it gets pretty hot.

I planned on putting an electric fan on it this year and as i was looking to make sure i had space for an electric fan i noticed that the fan is actually about 5-5 1/2" from the radiator. Anyone think this could be at least "part" of the problem? How close does everyone else like to run the fan from the radiator?

Ideal would be 1". You didn't mention if it has a shroud, it should. Right now the fan you have is pretty much useless.

    Thanks bob

It does have a shroud its a chrome shroud but not one of the chessy chrome ones so it does go about 3/4 of the way around the fan,its a decent width shroud also so even at 5" away the fan blades are covered about halfway by the shroud.

Spacing it to within 1" will deffinetly put the entire fan in the shroud though so maybe this could be the culprit.

Also the radiator is a brand new aluminum rad with 2 1" rows in it.

I am in agreement with Bob, get that fan closer to the radiator.
