    Hi,
I'm new here. The site looks great and has some interesting info. Hope I can learn something here.

The 454 is a good choice for great torque and horsepower. What would give you even more horsepower and maintain streetablility is put a blower on the 454. You could keep the motor pretty stock, with some good forged pistons and stock cam and get some neck jerking torque out of your truck, while running it on pump gas.
A friend of mine has a 66 chevy with a blower on a basically stock 454 and it really pulls hard. He hasn't brought it to the track yet but the truck ran a 12.40 second quarter miles without the supercharger, he ought to easily be in the low 11's now. And remember one thing it will be much harder to pull those front wheels of the ground with a truck due to the weight.

Whatever engine you decide on, one of the bedt ways to get awesome performance is to lessen the front end weight of the truck..remember..weight is the enemy....the more weight, the more power you need to push it......or pull it if you are a ricer

All I can really say is take weight off. Throw a 454 if you wan't, put some good pistons in, good performance cam (maybe a radical cam), good ignition system, etc. If you really got the money then try out a aluminum block. heh, just messing about that, but I say just work on one thing at a time like say put in a good cam, lifters, pistons, etc and then work on quick bolts ons and things of that sort like headers, exhaust, 4 barrel carb, etc. Also they have some sweet crate engines out there. There are ton's of ways to hook your thing up to make it haul ass. Make sure you got a good enough tranny to take the power and all too. Go through some a lot of mags and look at parts and projects on there and see the combonations of parts people use on their drag or street cars.
