Studebaker Re-wiring Project
I have just wrapped up my re-wiring project. I took this on because my voltage levels were not what they should be and there was a lot of wiring clutter in the car. I used the "New System" from Mad Electrical (http://www.madelectrical.com) along with a couple other of their kits. Total cost for their kits was about $170 delivered. Mark at Mad was also a great source of technical help when I had questions. I used the PDP1B fuse panel from Centech Wiring (http://www.centechwire.com/catalog/panels/pdp1b.shtml). Cost for the panel was $140 delivered.
I soldered all my connections and used heat shrink to insulate them. I fabricated a drop down fuse panel to move my fuse box inside the car from it's location on the firewall. I used a recycled metal first aid kit box as a power distribution and relay box that I installed up inside my left front fender. This houses relays for my fans and headlights and also contains a power distribution point near the front of the car.
Before the project, my voltage readings at idle were just over 12 volts and dropped as low as 8.5 with lights, fans and A/C on. It would hold just over 12 volts at highway speeds with everything on. After the project I have over 15 volts without accessories on and a solid 14 volts with everything on.
I did a photo history of the project, you can see it at:

If that link is too long, go to:

and then click on Studebaker Re-Wire album
Hope this is useful to others. Any questions shoot me an email or message

Alright man, sounds good. It will be a while, a year to be exact. I might go out and visit Southern Cali early and go check out that Wyotech up there in West Sac so I will give you a call or something if I do go early. All depends on what goes.www.streamlineautocare.com

Thanks Ferris,
Just as well you are so far away, not sure I am up for another one just yet
Not all that difficult but certainly time consuming.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
