Engine paint color suggestions
Hey gang,
I am looking ahead to future projects for the Stude, my plan for this winter is to pull things apart in the engine compartment and paint the motor and do some additional detailing. I am looking for some suggestion for engine paint color. Currently the motor is GM corporate blue with a black water pump. There is a lot of red in there already so red or Chevy Orange is probably not a good idea. The subframe and suspension are black. See the picture here:

I had thought about Studebaker engine green, but not sure how that would look nor how many people would even get the connection. Also what color would you suggest for accessory brackets? I am staying away from billet, but might consider having things chromed.
Thanks for your ideas.

HOT PINK & CHROME !
Nah, Just kiddin' Pat...I do like chrome though!
Do you have an accent color on the Stude (pinstriping, etc.) ???
That might be an option, to paint it in the accent color, with LOTS O' CHROME!!!!

What about gloss black? sure makes Chrome and polished aluminum really POP !
any light color would just make your bright work all blend in, and look cluttered.
If you use gloss black and have chrome and aluminum stuff you can use orange just for highlights on the motor , like small brackets and the like .............My 2 cents

If you wanted to be really different, you could paint it in different colors. It would look kind of like Lego Blocks!Right engine, Wrong Wheels

Well Pat, it all depends on what you plan to do. I agree, you've got quite a bit of red there already.
If you're going to leave it accessorized pretty much the same way it is now, I'd go with Spray and Trog, but with a twist. Get some plain steel valve covers, paint them yellow on a black block and accessories. After that, have a striper or sign painter paint the Studebaker logo on the covers. You could also do the same with the air cleaner top, emulating something used on Stude's V8s,
If you're going to put on finned aluminum covers then a touch more red painted in between the fins could work, but the block and heads should be black or a light contrasting color. One I like to use is a Honda color called Seattle Silver. It's a very warm tone of silver, actually leans toward beige a little. Compliments polished aluminum and ceramic coated headers very well.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

I say paint it what YOU wan't. If you like that green then do it green, who care's if others won't get it, at least you will. But if you wan't our oppinions here is mine... I got three here, I say do it either Gloss Black, Yellow, or a Blue. Not a light blue, something like a metallic blue or so and not too dark but not too light. Also put lot's of chrome in there or anodized blue and red parts. Don't put too many different colored parts on the thing or will will look like a big lego car. I think the blue would be something different and black looks good and the yellow is good for what streets said... for leaks.
Let us know your choice on this.www.streamlineautocare.com
If you wan't something done right, then you have to do it yourself!

Theres something to be said for a stealth engine. My cutlass engine is blue with turquoise valve covers. Anyone who knows modern Oldsmobile blocks knows that means 307 block and 260 heads. Sleepers are great.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

Thanks Folks!
For all your ideas. I had actually though of making some Studebaker Logo Valve covers, but I was thinking of the far more expensive option of machining some cast aluminum versions. I like the idea of painting and lettering them. I could even do a couple different colors and be able to switch from time to time. I like the yellow and also thought about the black motor with matching red covers with the logo.
As I said this will be a winter time project so now I have some time to think about it and start collecting some nice dent free covers.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!
And a Happy Birthday Wish for Mr. Spears. Hope you can have a great one. :)
