    quadrajet

I am rebuilding my quadrajet 4 barrel, and it was pretty rugged looking. I was putting it together and there was this seal or gasket looking thing on the power piston/metering rod piston and it was hard as a rock. The rebuild kit included 2 gasket/seals that looked the same so I basically removed the old one which shattered since it was so hardened. My question is was I supposed to do this? The new gasket fits well but I just kind of have to push it in to the piston hole when I put it in the carb. Is this right or was that piece not a seal? Thanks..Paul

Chances are that that seal is the right one. In many rebuild kits, they are just a hair too big. Work it a little, and let it contact some fuel. Then it should work.
