    Need Help..please !!!!

hye guys i need help on two seperate things the firstoneisthis. weahve a carmaro early 90's TBI chevy 350...with the stock automatic transmission. it is have transmission problems it has gotten to the point now that the car wont even move when you step on the gas just sits there and revs just like it is in nutreal, car has tranny fluid, new filter, all hoses are connected to it....it is just not a good week for us i guess same thing happend to my buddies car but i believe it was due to his own stupidity. Do you have any ideas on this? Why wont my transmission move the car?

other question is this, i cannot find what the part number of this transmission is....i am afraid may need a new transmission, where can i find out what transmission is in the car?

also one final question, i think it may be the torque convertor, what do you think? it is leaking tranny fluid from that general area, is there a way to test to convertor? if it is bad is there a place online i can go to show me how to remove it ?

please help me out, i cannot rely on my buddie he is incompetent and i am afraid he will mess up my car even more thanks

a no move is either your converter or the pump went south.
hook up a main line pressure gauge this will atleast tell you if your pump is ok . the port is right above the shift linkage on the drivers side of the trans.

the trans is a 700r4. if it is leaking fluid from the pump more than likely the bushing spun in the housing and cut the pump seal. either way you look at this situation the trans will have to come out , and you will have to pull and inspect the front pump , and while your that far i would pull out the clutch drum as see how everything looks. if you never worked on a transmission before you may want to go to a local well known shop.

Sounds like it's time to pull the tranny and torque converter and bring it to the shop for a rebuild. Something in there seems to be broke, and it's very hard to figure it out unless it's apart. Sometimes it's just a piston seal that's gets blown and the tranny can't build pressure. On the other hand it could be as simple as a spring in the valve body, such as a pressure regulator spring.
To remove the torque converter you have to pull the tranny anyway. Usually if the converter is broke it will have some pieces parts scattered throughout the tranny.
Other things to check, it could be as simple as your shifter cable coming loose.
Not sure of your tranny but might be an M-40, though I am not too familiar with the more recent trannies. I'm still back in the turbo 350 and 400 days.

figure at a respectble shop charge will be around $1200 to $1500

that is R&R of the trans , totall overhaul with updates, and new torque converter, and fluid.

that costs is average in my area. i live about 50 miles outside of philly , pa and they are about $500 to $800 more.

camaro's are simple to pull on or off the gound.
best thing to do though is get all four wheels the ground off with jackstands.
should take about an hour , hour and a half.

Auto zone ! < ( I know ..... I know .. ) but I had to have one last year ! so I went to auto zone and had one shipped to the store .It was right at around $ 1250.oo, " updated & W/Brand new torque converter, and trans cooler, warranty was for 5 years , >>>>>> even if YOU put it in !!!! <<< " now I don't know how good that was but ,........ANYways "

I checked around when mine was going out and that seemed better then wishing someone fixed it properly !
    >> for the same price !!! <<<

around here the quotes I got where around 1200.oo and 1400.oo " from reputable shops " and about $900.oo from the guys with red rags hanging out there back pockets

but it'd be worth a call to check it out .......... if your pulling it your self anyway ........ and checking if the warranty is the same and the price , ....... sorry I don't remember the company name , "If I'm feeling froggy tomorrow I'll > roll < under there and see if there is a tag or something ? " .......... but it was auto zone that set it up .

    Dame'it !!!!! I thought I was thru under there !!
