Speedometer hookup
I'm sure this question has come up dozens of time; What is the preferred and recommended method of connecting a speedometer to the trans., mechanical or electronic? I am about to purchase a T5 manual trans. to attach to my 59A flathead and the supplier needs to know which type hookup, mech. cable or electronic sender.
Also, does anyone still prefer a generator vs an alternator on their rod?

SORRY GUYS, I did not mean to disturb you in any way. The recommended previous forum speedo topics did not answer my question.

I guess it depends. You either spend the money having a speedo cable made for your application or try to find an electronic speedometer to fit your dash. I'd go with the cable but that's just my opinion.
As for the gen/alt thing, I'm building a 50s style roadster and my 57 T-bird engine came with a generator. so it's still on there. I might change it to an alternator when it's time to wire it up. A generator won't put out enough juice to charge the battery at idle. An alternator does. Generators also need to have the brushes replaced more frequently than alternators. I converted the flathead in my 40 panel truck to an alternator and never had a problem in 12 years. If you're putting a T5 behind a flathead i'd guess originality isn't that important to you." Im gone'

The Al Show; Thanks for the informative feedback. I appreciate all input that helps me to learn how to build this car correctly.
As for the speedometer hookup situation, I have not chosen any dashboard instruments as yet nor have I established the rearend gear ratio and tire size. So, my question of choosing cable vs electronic hookup depended on whether I would require a Programable speedometer. I am still in the dark as to where I go from here.NTL Lee
