They are actually trying to get all the old cars off the streets. It sucks
That's my 2 cents and i'm stickin 2 it.
Not having lived there for sometime the only alternative that I could suggest would be to have someone out of state register it in your name there then transfer it to Cali. But that is mucho deniero and highly agin the rules.

The rattle trap crowd.
Big smoking POS cars and trucks that are falling apart around the driver's ears.
Unfortunately who pays for it?
The vintage and classic car crowd.
Let's not forget all the wonderful car runs that have been shut down due to excessive "cruising" through residential neighborhoods. Does anyone remember what happened to "Graffiti Night" in Modesto?
Well before I left Cali they stopped it entirely because a bunch of idiots going through private neighborhoods causing mayhem and all sorts of mischief.
I don't know if they're running it again though. I hope they figured out a way to bring it back.Any dolt with a Torch and Welder can customize a car.

I guess the correct thing to do would be to lobby Governor Arnold.
I mean here this guy is a BIG Automotive/Biker hound and Cali passes a blanket law that is completely unfair to us hobby hounds.
What you oughtta do is write Jay Leno and Tim Allen. These guys probably have the biggest collections. They have also been Middle Class car nuts. If anyone could start the ball rolling to fix the law it would be someone like these two guys.
Shiite Leno owns a Firetruck turned into a HotRod.
Anyway laws can be fixed and changed but it takes someone fed up with the problem to cause change.Any dolt with a Torch and Welder can customize a car.

Kevin: I recently registered my 29 Ford in Long Beach, Cal without a pinkslip. The truck has been out of the system for many many years. I believe the last time it was registered was probably in the 50’s. All I had was a bill of sale and a VIN on the frame. I started with a title company and got the run around, but they got it done. I filled out a duplicate pink request and took it to the CHP who verified the VIN, make and model. They added a new VIN plate to the firewall and signed off on it. I took the sign off to the title company, they sent in all the paper work into the DMV. I received my plates approx. 2 weeks later. The best of it was, the truck was just a rolling chassis and body. I thing I did learn is that each DMV office is different. One office will be up to date and follow the letter of the law, the next will not. If one office will not meet your needs, then go to another. If you do not like what one person says in that office talk to another in the same office. Good Luck.Itsaposcj5

I found a company that will sell me an original 1950 ford f1 pink slip and vin plate for 150 bucks. I think that might be the direction I go. AAlso found a title company that will make me paperwork out of state and then I will have to register it here. That service is 160 bucks plus I have to find sopmeone to do it for me out of state. I'm still researching the best way to go. Also got up the sellers ass to find that lost pink, don't expect that to happen though. He's gonna have to cough up what it costs me though. when I figure that out....That's what you say

Believe me, I've thought often of leaving California, but it's only going to be different somewhere else for a short while. You can run but you can't hide. Sad part is, I'ma third generation "Angelino" as they say. My grandfather was one of the contractors that helped build this city at the trun of the century. I remember a much different California that the one we have today.
Look what they've done to my town Ma.....That's what you say

livining here in this great state of ca i feel your pain. the dmv that is another story. i have used flagstaff az to geat few cars on the road. tip, you dont have to go there. download the forms, use your local police to do a vin check, send the paper work back so on so on. the trick is to use your home in ca as a mailing address. pick some AZ apt building address off the net.... as your az home... pain in the... but it works...
feb this year i got a 49 dodge wayfarer coupe, had the local popo come over to my shop and do a vin check. i had no paper work for the car and was not sure what year it was. ca dmv gave me a set of plates and a title, this took over 2 months and 45.00 later.
the local kids down the street wanted to use the car as a hot rod project, long story short, knowing i will never see any money out of the deal.... the kids brought me a 2 cases of beer... missing a few beers out of the cases... bet there father is pissed....55 chevy
