Question What year steering columns are interchangeable with a 1965 El Camino?

I want to convert my 65 El Camino from a 2 speed auto on the column to a 3 speed auto on the column. Someone told me that 64-68 GM "A" Body cars are interchangeable, but I don't trust his word. Can anyone help? Just in case it matters, my car has a 327 with Power steering, and a bench seat. Thanks a lot.

why dont you just put a 65 column out of a impala or a belair if you can find one but yes 64 to 68 should work but just in case the plugin are diffrent cut the wires pass the plug as far as you can so when you pull the column the plug on both side are still connected so lf you have to splice your color coded wire you need will be there . ps and if you find one with the shift on the column with tilt let me know

Thanks for the reply. I found a column out of a 1968 Impala. Are 64-68 "B" bodys interchangeable with 64-68 "A"s? Thanks.

columns a or b dosen,t matter if you really think about it what diffrents is there going to be as long as you can match up to the collar going to the steering box GM don,t use two or three different columns for different models they may have different function like cruz or dimer etc. as long as the collar matches up and you have the wiring connection plug(both sides) you got it made let me put it another way I put a tilt wheel out of a 78 plymouth vallary in to a 72 international pick up hope Ive helped and not confused you another example I am putting a tilt wheel out of a 65 impala into my 65 C10 pickup Im useing the impala steering gear cause I want power steering I could of use the old box but im tired of armar hammer steering ya know what I mean
