simple solution. Ford 9" out of '77 or '78 Linclon versallias and a 347 stroker kit for the motor along with a good 4bbl manifold, headders and good ignition or, you could find a mid 70's tbird with a 429 or 460 then rebuild it so it has power instead of an economy motor. the '73 - say '76 tbirds are usally feasable for around 400- 1k in my area. Your best bet is probably the 347 stroker kit.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Cheapest route would probably be picking up a donor car from a salvage yard.
When your done, post some pics. I'd like to see a fast '85 grand marquis."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Sounds like a fun swap. The more you shop, the better the prices are going to be. A junk yard donor would be good, just plan on having to go through it and buy the performance parts for that motor.
For a cruizer, you might want to consider Matt's suggestion on the stroker motor. To his list of parts I would also add a good set of aluminum heads. It might be a bit less money to rebuild what you have rather than buyin another motor, rebuilding it, then swapping things. If you want big cubes, less hassle, how about a 351 Windsor with a stroker kit and aluminum heads????
Anyway, like Pro said, it's gonna be a kewl ride, keep us updated on your progress.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Dont rule out the 5.0 thats currently in the car. I believe that 85 was the first year of Factory roller cams and Multiport EFI, so consider a good duel exhaust, some high flow cats(All 4), a Shift kit for that POS AOD metric, a Performance chip, and take a look at your rear end. Some grand marquis came with limited slips, some diddnt. This car with a good freshining is capable of lighting the tires in stock form, so if you have a small budget, look to improve whats there.Right engine, Wrong Wheels
Thanks guys! One more trip around the sun completed. Lots of blessings and things to be thankful for (like still being able to type this message!!) Here's to us "over 70 guys.." Glenn
