    40 ford disk brake conversion

Has anyone converted 40 ford spindles to dick brakes. I was looking at the ECI kit, and it looks fairly simple. Or has anyone done their own conversion. Any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Well I am not an expert on this and not finished yet since I am sweating out the stainless steel brake lines and a slight annoying problem with notching the crossmember to fit in a power master cylinder unit into a Brookville Model-A frame with a Magnum 4" dropped axle. I am dreading the break line job but maybe it will not be too bad if I just take my time. Anyway, get a kit. Whatever kit you get will have the bearings figured out. I have a TCI kit on what seem to be repo '40 spindles but with Dodge rotors and mid-GM caliphers on a special kit adapter. I think this is the same as the "Econo Brake kit" offered by Speedway? The only reason this fits together is because the people who designed the kit figured out the correct bearings and races. I would not attempt to look through parts catalogs for bearing combinations, so just be thankful someone else has figured it out for the kit. I think one bearing came from Yugoslavia and the other from China so I hope they last. I saved the boxes so I can reorder bearings when the time comes. Actually this kit went together in a little over an hour, the first time. Then I realized I did not install the grease fittings into the kingpins so I had to disassemble the brake kit to put in the fittings. The second time the kit went together in about 15 minutes!

www/speedwaymotors.com has a kit to convert to disc brakes using Chevy rotors and calipers that not very expensive. Check them out.

I am running 40 Ford spindles on my roadster. I used the Super Bell kit. I bought the brackets, bearing adaptors, bearings, and seal (basic kit) frm them and sourced the Chrysler rotors and GM calipers from NAPA. When I was done I could have saved a buck or two buying it all from Supe Bell.

Picture shows the bracket mounted to the spindle.

    I am very pleased.
