    Blue and Red AN Fittings

I ordered two different types of those nice looking blue and red hose fittings just to see how they worked. I'm months and months away from getting to the point where I'll need them, but how do those things work.
If you have a tapped hole in a manifold or something, how do you know what size fitting will thread in it?
Also, how does hose secure to the tips of them? the hose end of the one I got looks like it has some big threads. Am I supposed to take a piece of stainless braid line and put in on the end and then twist the rotating part of the fitting until those threads grab it and pull it secure?
I want to use these things when I plumb my truck because they look awesome.
Any info from people who have used them would be appreciated.
