Airbag susp on a 55 buick..
Ok, i really wanted either Hydraulics or Airbags on my 55 roadmaster... but readint thru the Shop manual whilst performin my trans replacement, i came across somethat stipulates the trans torque tube assembly etc HAS to be kept at 45* angle....
ok so if i dump the car, the angle is gonna change, right??
now does that mean that i'll be riskin one of the drive train components??
DANG torque tube ideas...
ok, also, if i do bag the car, will the drivetrain asmbly. be ok if i jus dump the car once stationary(THATS NO FUN!!!!)..or will that too stress it all out??
someone on heres gotta be an air susp whizz...or someones gotta have done this...8TH ANNUAL RATFINK PARTY & KUSTOM KULTURE EXTRAVAGANZA - 21TH JULY LOS ANGELES COUNTY RACEWAY, PALMDALE CA.

I know that not too long ago kennyd bagged a Buford, I think it was a 58... I believe he told me he had to replace the rearend and the driveline then modify the X-member... Maybe he will jump on here and explan what had to be done...

to a diffrent drive train & frame " I was wanting it to lay down on it's frame ( rockers almost on the ground ) when I parked ......
lots'a luck ....

well , i am jumping in here .
i worked on a 58 buick for a coustomer i had a torque tube and a heavy as hell rear axle . to install airride on it you have to remove the trans, tube, and axle and replace it with different parts . we used a th350 trans with adapter , made a custom trans mount anyone can do this . then we put a ford 9 in in it and used a airride kit from airride tech. with a triangled 4 bar set up , this is a little harder , you must have a good welder, anglefinder ( because i cant spell inclimeter?) and be able to make brackets to attach this to the frame because there is no bolt on kit .
for the front this is the easiest part , take out the spring and install the airspring and measure the difference and make a spacer ( included in the kit ) to make up the difference .
now this is the short version of installing this in a 55 -58 buick.
there is many things you MUST understand about airride first , before trying to install airride without bolt -on kit .
no 1 , you must follow airrides specs. on airspring length.
so do your homework first or you will not be happy with airride
proper installed airride will ride , handle ,and look better than a coilover or spring set up !!!!
but i must AIRBAG THE WORLD !!!!!!!!yes i drove ,the trailer didnot drive it's self

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
