    4X4 Suspension Set-up

    Hey Guy's need some help;
    I usually hang out in the Deuce Den , but am helping my son whose into 4X4 Trucks with his, anyone out there have 4X4 knowledge ? Question, he's mounting Ford 1 Ton axles under his 96 Chevy 1/2 Ton, We've got the front Diff. installed but how do you set the " Pinion angle " on the front in relation to the Transfer case, is it done the same as you would on a rear end ? ie. protractor on the yoke of the t-Case and the same on the front Diff yoke,making sure their parellel ? the king pin angle is ~ 4 deg, neg. ( to the rear ) . How much angle is too much angle on the drive shaft for the front ? He's installed a 6"suspension lift and a body lift. not sure if I've given enough info. but we'll see where this goes and progress from there. Thanks in advance for your input.

    OK, this shouldnt be too hard. Your driveshaft angle will almost always be the same on both ends if you have both the axle and t-case flat. Too see if you have too much angle, place the driveshaft up in place, then look at the Ujoint assembly. If the knuckes are contacting, then you will destroy your housing in a few miles. If you have 1/4 or more clearance in all directions, it should be good. However, it that much lift, im surprised they reach at all. You may want to consider having custom driveshafts turned. Oh, and FYI, a body lift doesnt affect driveshaft travel. All that does is raise the actual tub.

    drg84; Thanks for the reply, 10-4 on the body lift, just general info, TMI maybe HUH ? Sometimes more info is good, I understand He'll have to have a new Shaft made up, expected that ! Looks like what we've got is OK will check the U-Joint Clearance as you mentioned, Thanks again. Any other good bits of Wisdom out there ?
