76 Chevy pickup 250cid power steering
I'm wondering if there is someone out there who knows a bit about my problem: I am trying to convert a manual steering box setup to power.
In looking for a ps box, I was told (locally) that 77 was a change year for the box, and that I would need to track down the correct box for mine that was used between 67 and 76 only.
Someone on Ebay tells me that they're all basically the same, that most all Chevy/GMC full size pick ups can use the same steering boxes, that it's only a question of the bolt pattern in the frame, and that they're all the same.
On another matter, also, does anyone know where the pump would mount on a 250 cid "stovebolt special?"
On Ebay, I found one of the brackets necessary to mount the pump on the block, but I don't know where it goes.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

The gearbox is the same, no problem there. Bolt pattern stayed the same through the late 90's.
The pump mounting I remember as being real funky, lemme see what I can find.http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/647081

Thanks, Sparky.
I found 2 different steering boxes listed at Auto Zone, one for 67 to 76, and one from 77 up through the 80s.
From what you have said, it sounds like I could get a box from a 1980 donor vehicle that I found in a U Pull It yard and make it work.
Chances are that I would also need a steering column, too, I would guess?
Sorry for my total ignorance on this job. I have done repairs on this old beast over the years, but have never attempted a modification!

My experience has been that there are only 2 different shaft sizes and all full size trucks had the same size. That 80 will work fine.http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/647081
