    mustang II IFS springs ?

i have a TCI IFS on my 53 chevy and i was wondering how tight the coil spring usually are on these things. without the motor in the springs are putting soo much pressure on the ball joints that i cant turn the wheels by hand. when i have the motor setting in there ( big block ) a guy has to bounce up and down on the frame fairly violently to get the suspension to go up and down, and it isnt very much. hopfully you can see in my pic that there is also a nice bow in the springs also. seems to stiff for me but i dont know for sure. wish i could drive it and find out.

I notice you don't have your shocks in, I am not saying that it would make a big different but thinking when you compress the spring to install the stock it wouldn't allow the spring to return to such a open state. I have mustang II on my car and I also have different upper and lower control arms, but I didn't have that problem. Thinking the spring is in correct or your control arms are install incorrectly, just a thought.

Hard to tell without the motor and trans in the car, very little weight on the springs now. What rate springs did you order?? Can't really tell on the spring rate until the car is done as to whether they are too soft or too firm.

I'm sure your right, when I install my front suspension I didn't and still don't have the engine in, but the front end kit is for a BBF. And I have known problem turning the spindals or added pressure on the ball joints.

i ordered springs for a big block ( mistake?) . as for the lack of shock theory, i just checked and thats not the problem and the A arms are stupid proof, they go on one way. i'm pretty sure i will be needing different springs or does a guy dare chop a little off or will it lower it dramaticly. i think it almost sat too low already when i had the body sitting on it, i might get the standard height spindles.

Hey 55, I cant tell if u have the body on it but that will make a difference too. Even tho the wire diameter looks real thick in the coils. part of way it works is the different diameters of wire gives u part of the spring rate. The other part is from the spacing between coils. Hope this makes sense.

Wouldn't chop them if I can return them. I would ask if the drop spindles require different springs.

dont know if anyone cares but i talked to Tim today and he said dont worry about it, with the BB springs it might act that way. he also said dont try to adjust ride height until the last stictch of interior is in and all the glass is in, it all adds up very quickly for weight.

i thought so too although i am still a little sceptical, but i guess i should trust a guy who owns a hot rod shop instead of what i think it should look like.

Tim told you right, without all the weight in the car you won't know what the springs will do. If you want it to set at ride height while you are building the rest of the car, remove the springs and replace them with a block of wood that will duplicate the height the car will be setting when finished. If the car is still too high when it's finished, then is the time to replace the spring.
