mustang II IFS springs ?
i have a TCI IFS on my 53 chevy and i was wondering how tight the coil spring usually are on these things. without the motor in the springs are putting soo much pressure on the ball joints that i cant turn the wheels by hand. when i have the motor setting in there ( big block ) a guy has to bounce up and down on the frame fairly violently to get the suspension to go up and down, and it isnt very much. hopfully you can see in my pic that there is also a nice bow in the springs also. seems to stiff for me but i dont know for sure. wish i could drive it and find out.Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 03-19-2005 at 06:02 PM.

Hard to tell without the motor and trans in the car, very little weight on the springs now. What rate springs did you order?? Can't really tell on the spring rate until the car is done as to whether they are too soft or too firm.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Hey 55, I cant tell if u have the body on it but that will make a difference too. Even tho the wire diameter looks real thick in the coils. part of way it works is the different diameters of wire gives u part of the spring rate. The other part is from the spacing between coils. Hope this makes sense.Choose your battles well===If it dont go chrome it

dont know if anyone cares but i talked to Tim today and he said dont worry about it, with the BB springs it might act that way. he also said dont try to adjust ride height until the last stictch of interior is in and all the glass is in, it all adds up very quickly for weight.Seth

i thought so too although i am still a little sceptical, but i guess i should trust a guy who owns a hot rod shop instead of what i think it should look like.Seth

Tim told you right, without all the weight in the car you won't know what the springs will do. If you want it to set at ride height while you are building the rest of the car, remove the springs and replace them with a block of wood that will duplicate the height the car will be setting when finished. If the car is still too high when it's finished, then is the time to replace the spring.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
