    font end rebuild

Hello everyone, I"ve got a '79 camaro frt. end in my '47 chevy coupe. I"m in the process of rebuilding the frt. suspension right now and need to know how to remove the bushings out of the lower control arms, thanks for the help.

    Front end rebuild

The lower or upper bushings can be remove by a shop press.I`v heard tales of people using a bench, vice and a ballpeen hammer and an air hammer? for the money you`ll spend at the local mach. shop it`s worth it. good luck

Thanks, that"s what I"m hearing. I also heard about the air hammer method, guess I"ll try that today while watching Gordon kick some #$$ !. Thanks.

well what i did was use the vise method. You get a large socket on one end and one that is the exact size of the bushing on the other, put them in between the vise and twist. It comes out very easy. The problem is getting them back in. If you have something to heat them up it would be easier to put them back in.

In all the trouble it would be, it would be better to take to a shop, take off the control arms and have'em pressed.

I am currently in a rebuild phase i had small probs but everything is ready to go except for putting the springs/shocks in. That will be done tommrow. Sadly i broke off a collar bolt on the passenger upper control arm. 40 ft/lb.......

What i did was press the bushings out myself using the vise and then took them to a shop to get pressed.
Dreams cost money, but they are worth it, do it right the first time.

Thanks for the reply. The best way by far is the "Shop" method, cost me all of $40 to have all the ball joints & bushing removed & replaced. I did blast them with sand before I brought them in. I"ve got them back, painted and tomorrow I"ll install them. Sure is nice at the "Zone" to rent out the spring compressor!
