Wheelie bars on an IRS setup
I am fitting up a jaguar independent rear end with locker, on my 29a... my problem is..
car only wiehgs around 500kgs..and has around 650horses... so it stands a good chance of wheelstanding on hard launches...
i have checked out all of the wheelie bar setups for straight axled cars with 4 links etc... but how do ya rig this stuff up on an IRS setup???
Surely if ya try to mount the regular bars up to an independent rear it will lock out or restrict movement of the hub carriers??
searched the web for a good long while today and cant find zip...
theres gots ta be someone out there with IRS and wheelie bars...either axle mounted or chassis?!?!?!?!

Mount the bars to the rear end center section and upper crossmember. If you hook it up hard enough to need wheelie bars, you are gonna have a lot of parts breakage on the jag rearend. They aren't designed to take much horsepower. Best case scenario is the tires will go up in smoke and the rear end might live a bit longer. An IRS looks kewl, but they won't take a hard hooking car with horsepower. I used to gernade Corvette half shafts and u-joints with only 350 horse.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

You could always put a set of casters under the rear bumper like they did for a short time back in the 70's . But like Dave said, If your makin' enough power to need wheelie bars your problee' exceeding the limits of an IRS. Probably why wheelie bars for a jag rear end and or Corvette IRS are not to be found. Being a lightweight vehicle might allow it to survive a little longer, but 600+ ponies is a hand full for a light duty rear end."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

I got offered a complete
freshly rebuilt,shortened Olds rocket 88 rear today...dont know year or ratio, but it was in my buddies truck mated up to a stock 350 cheb n th400, in which he was pullin mid 13s at the strip...
Will this be a strong enough unit???

If it's the (I believe) '57-'64, 10 1/4" unit, yeah, it's strong enough. Problem will be finding fresh parts for it. If you're looking for relatively cheap and definitely bulletproof, go with a Currie or Moser 9".PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.
