    Jaguar IRS installation?

It's time for mounting the Jaguar rear axle very soon.
I have read all the theory and understand the geometric principles.

But now it's time for the real stuff: To actually do it, and make it right.

The car is a 34 Ford with boxed stock frame and stock x-member.
Any of you guys who has mounted such IRS yourself?
    I know about this company:
    http://www.snowwhiteltd.com/products.htm

Any other companys who deliver bushings, balljoint's etc for the Jag' IRS?

I'm planning to weld the crossmember and make the brackets and rods muself, but is not sure which dimensions I must use on the different parts.

    Jag rear end

I've got 3 jag xj6 rears in my shop, and and an 85 front suspension.. I ordered the T bucket prints from CCR in southern calif. they give you all the dimensions and full size paterns for the whole t bucket for 20 bucks, the jag rear end print is 5 bucks, a real deal. I used to mock up a chassis using 2x4's before i cut steel but the CCR plans has ever thing fitting first time. The only thing is that to tap out the 7/8 dom tubing without a lathe I cut the rods 1 inch longer than the spec, then start drilling with the smallest drill bit that will remove metal using a milwaukee right angle 1/2 inch electricians drill, slow and lots of torque. I keeping changing bits until I get to the 17/32 ( I think). The last step before using the 5/8 tap is to use a 5/8 drill and drill out 1 inch deep. this makes the tap align and centered, no wobbeling. When you tap as deep as you can go cut off that 1 inch extra length then check with the drill bit and if necessary drill the required depth then finish tapping.

Thanks timothale, will send for the CCR plans promptly. With or without machines the height to place the crossmember has always been a crapshoot. One wants to get just the right rake and then when the interior, glass, tank full of fuel, etc. are installed and the springs settle a little you can end up feeling foolish and have to adjust with tire size or something.

I've built strange and unusual stuff all my life, so I've learned to build in adjustable mounts for stuff like this. Where you will mount the diff, bolt on an adapter piece maybe 2" to 2 1/2" thick and bolt it to the frame member, then bolt the diff to the adapter. If you need it down in the rear, change the adapter for a thinner one. If you need it up in the rear, change the adapter for a thicker one. I always do this when mounting a rack and pinion. I determine where I think it should be, then space it off the crossmember with a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter. That way, I can go thicker or thinner on my adapter to adjust for bump steer if I need to.

Anyone know of suppliers of used Jaguar half-shafts?

I need the narrower S-Type version.

Otherwise it's over to CWI for one of their models plus shipping. Anyone know the unit cost from them for their half-shafts?

    Hi Maxcat
I just checked and I do have some original halfshafts . I have one set of 3.8 S type 56" wide and one set of E type 53 1/4", they are both dog bone style . I can also make the tubular axles in custom lengths. If anyone else has questions on Jag rear ends I will be glad to answer them. I've been known to work on them from time to time.

Mike the 56" width will save my project!

If you go here you can see I've asked the same question here without success:

What's your price and can you calculate shipping down here?

    many thanks!

Good to see you on here Mike. How'd you locate the site? We've been referring Jag IRS folks to you for some time now. You might want to check with the powers that be here about a banner ad.

    Hi Bob
Thanks for the referrals. I was doing some work on the web site and did a search on Jag rear ends. Max's question came up on this forum. I have been checking out a few of the forums, it looks like this one is very well put together and has quite a lot of activity. Like I said I'll be glad to answer any questions on Jag IRS's
    Cheers
    Mike
