    just not hookin!

I recently dropped a 12 bolt off a 68 camaro into my 70 nova with 3.31's and added the comp eng j bolt traction bars to the combo. I have much better traction now than with my stock 10 bolt, but im still smokin through 1st gear. Im runnin a 350 puttin out about 370hp/390tq a TH 350 tranny w/ 3000 stall. I also have gabriel hi-jacker air shock which i know are not recommended with traction bars. My question is , what would be the best think to do or change to make for increased traction? Things that come to mind are:50/50 gas shocks, drag radial tires, pinion angle adjustment... what do you think?

I would go with about a 3:50 gear and get rid of the gabriels. Alower gear will spin tires much less.

Ladder bars; and soft bushings. And have you removed the front sway bar to help the weight transfer to the back tires? Defintly lose the air shocks to let the body roll back over the rear end or squat down in the back.

i have not removed the front sway bar at all. How does that help the weight transfer? I am definitely gonna get rid of those air shocks soon and maybe lower my tire pressure a bit too and see what happens

Tires should be your next purchase. BFG Drag radials if you want a street legal tire, Hoosier or Goodyear wrinkle wall slicks if you don't.

I agree with Tech, tires are the easiest solution for a street strip car. If the car is street driven I would not remove the front sway bar. Definitely get some 50/50 shocks to compliment the traction bars.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

As some of you may known I am building my first strip car. I am at the point where I am just about done with a complete mock up. I have a new sway bar that I haven't included in the mock up. I plan on driving the car sometimes on friday nights. Should I reconsider installing the sway bar or is it ok not to have it on some weekend conner cutting.

Try 90/10's on the front,50/50 shocks on the back.Watch your air pressure in your tires. What pinion angle do you run?

One thing wich is good to do is have some video you when the car launches .Then you can replay in slow motion what happening. You will be able to see the weight trasnfer in motion. Good strip tires is a must, and if using street tires keep them at pressure that is called for 32-35.Higher or lower will not help, only hurt.

Ted you will be fine without a sway bar. My 66 doesn't have them and through turns it's fine. Now with sway bars it will cut corners, etc better and more firm but it doesn't matter.
