get a copy of lowrider magazine and start reading. you will learn some things about lowering a car such as CAMBER... the camber goes to shit when you drop it down by modifying the front springs. destroys the handling, and makes the tires wear badly.
aribags are a good way to go.. you can slam it down for cruise and the parking lot, then raise it up to a decent height for driving around.
dropped spindles... maintains the stock geometry, but drops the front. Probably aviable ( for your ca ) in 1, 2, or 3" drop.
smaller wheels. If you switch from a 15" to a 14 " you get a half inch drop, without destroying the geometry. ( OK, technically, it still messes with the geometry, but less radical than just weakening the springs )
low profile tires. Again, it messes with the geometry less than just weakening the springs, but if done in conjunction with smaller wheels, then the negative effects to the geometry will add..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Sorry for your loss of friend Mike McGee, Shine. Great trans men are few and far between, it seems. Sadly, Mike Frade was only 66 and had been talking about retirement for ten years that I know...
