Squeeky Springs
Hope this is not too far off topic...
The leaf springs on my boat trailer squeek something terrible. They are monoleaf springs on a rectangular tube axle. I have tried spraying some WD-40 into the bushings and around mounting plates and that quiets them for about a day, then the squeeks are back. Any ideas on what I can use to lube them up that will last?
Thanks
Pat
P.S. Since the trailer has aluminum wheels and carries a 70 mph boat, maybe it qualifies as Hot Rod related after all...

..The spring hanger bushings on boat trailers are put together dry and I have not found anything that stops the annoying squeaks but taking the thru bolts out and bushings and coating them with a good lithium grease..Rollers too...I packed the rollers on one of my 1200 LB EZ Loaders and when I went to launch "Houdini" he pulled me into the lake..Some of the Calkins leafs were so cronic we would pull the springs and coat between each leaf with grease..Offshore made parts didn't help this problem....The cylinders have to be inline.!!!

I had the same problem with the car, I took down the u bolts and put slices of plastic (5 gallon bucket lid ) under the edges of the springs where they meet, front and back. It lasted as long as i owned the vehicle.mikei like burnt rubber smell

The lithium grease solution is the only one that will work with monoleaf springs. Putting plastic or rubber between them won't do any good and would look stupid. ;>)" Im gone'

Rubber cut to fit between the leaves of a trailer used in salt water doesn't work..The salt builds up between the rubber and steel and tends to rot out faster...I have a hunch The Al Show meant "multi leaf" instead of "monoleaf"...I use the term "multi leaf" for "leaf" and "single leaf" for "mono" a lot...What the hell...The cylinders have to be inline.!!!

Why would I mean multi leaf when the question was about monoleaf springs? There's about a 3 foot gap between monoleaf springs." Im gone'

Well...allwrittie then..Maybe Stu Cool meant muilti...He said his leaf springs squeaked but he has mono springs..Ok...Ok...what ever...........Hey Streets.....Do you mean the right coast or the "right" coast..... .......Ain't one or more of the Great Lakes salt water ??....Or maybe partly.??.....Keep your leaves greased man.....The cylinders have to be inline.!!!

Naw, I meant MONOleaf, and they do squeek, but the squeeks come from the hangers, not springs rubbing. The Al Show was right, Inlineidiot nailed it with his first response about greasing the thru bolts and bushings, I was just not sure what to use, was hoping there was some kinda magic spray. One of these days when they annoy me enough, and I am not fishing or messing with my hot rod, I'll pull them apart and put the lithium grease on as he suggested.
Thanks for the tips, and the entertainment! LOL!!
Pat (on the Left Coast)Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Read where the Mormons led by Jim Bridger were going west and came across the Great Salt Lake and thought it was the left hand coast....So they stayed..............The cylinders have to be inline.!!!
Thank you Roger. .
