nice looking front suspension?
hello i tried searching for my question but didn't really have any luck so i'm going to ask all you guys if you have any suggestions. i'm in the process of researching and gathering parts so i can build and old "rat rod" style pickup... so it will be fenderless. my question is can any of you tell me what front suspension looks good on a fenderless setup or tell me what your setup is? i was thinking independent front suspension but would consider all options. i don't really wanna go to a website for new suspension because they seem a little expensive and i want to make a low budget but quality ride. thanks for any help. pictures would be appreciated.

What's wrong with using the stock suspension that's under it now?PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Lots of different set ups to choose from. You could leave it bone stock, alter the wheelbase, batwings and radius rods, drop in an independant suspension kit, etc. You could even flip the leaf springs to drop it in the weeds!.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

This is just my own personal opinion, but I feel only the traditional I beam or tube axle with a single cross spring looks right on a fenderless car. That being said, I have seen some great cars with coilovers or other independant front suspensions, running no fenders, but for the most part I just like the simplicity of the old Ford type front end the best. It is also easier to set up in my opinion.
Like I said, that is just me talking, and I'm sure others will have opinions that differ from that.

Take a look at speedway, or MAS racing front ends, they don't get less expensive, and with a spring behind mount should drop it down and give you the look you want. Hank

IFS and rat rod just don't belong in the same sentence. Tube or I-beam is the only way to go.Jack

I saw that too Henry.
Does a Rat Rod really need a sexy IFS?
I guess if Boyd or Chip built it then it would
I thought the sexy part of a rat rod was in scabbing things laying around together to make it functional, unique, and 'cool'.

well the thing is i am using whatever i can scrounge up and since i don't have any suspension i'm just looking at all options...i don't care if the pickup is a true rat rod or not but i want something quality at the same time...not some cobbled up contraption...but i like the look with the chopped top and small box n what not...
thanks,
Jeremy
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
