    sorry force of habit using e mail...
    the driveshaft is enclosed and floats in the same oil as the gearbox. the last time i had the tranny out i had to remove the leaf spring bolts, and roll the rear end back to repair clutch. I am not sure what the width od the rear end is, because the car is in storage in Texas. I have been getting the parts together, and building the engine in my shop.
