Ordered wrong front coil springs...will they work?
I am doing a frame off restore of a 1970 chevelle. I recently purchased a 383 stroker engine to be put in the car.
The body is back on the car and we are rebuilding the front end. I realized that the coil springs I purchased a year ago are for "Heavy Duty" which I have learned means big block.
Now I know that you need "Heavy Duty" springs for a big block but can I still use them for a small block? Will this cause any issues?

If I were going to all the trouble of a frame-off, I'd certainly want the correct springs in the car. With the BB springs, the front is gonna sit higher than you want it to I think and ride comfort will be compromised. Get the correct springs.

You can probably cut the springs to get the ride height correct, but it's going to be stiff.Our race team page

Just bite the bullet, springs don't cost that much. If you cut the coils the car will ride like a rock.

Put them on ebay and get the right ones..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Way back, I put a set of V8 springs in the front of my beater 6cyl Granada. Did a real nice job of searching for owls in tree tops at night. I pulled it back apart and cut them down to the correct height. It did ride a bit harsh, but coupled with the new HD rear springs, made that sloppy handling car a lot better. But, with that said, I would get the right ones since you seem to have spent the bucks on everything else - just remember mine was a beater to commute 700 miles/week for work only.Dave W

I had a 1969 Z-28. Back then the fad was to have the front higher than the back (remember). Gasser style. Most guys were using the screw in type spring adjusters. They would definitely ride hard.
So I decided to buy a set of heavy duty station wagon springs and have them installed. Car rode like a truck. The height changed all the geometry on the front end and the garage was barely able to get it aligned correctly. Something to think about.

I guess my vote would be for buying the correct springs.... Sure be a shame to go through all that work, then not have the car with "the look" you want.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks for all the replies. For some reason it is not notifying me when someone responds....
By the way, I think we might have already put heavy duty springs on the back. I don't think that will matter as much though right?
Anyway, I will look for the correct springs.
Anyone want to buys some Heavy Duty coil springs for a 1970 Chevelle?
