    Lightest Rear Diff?

I am building a '32 highboy electric coupe, and if all goes as planned (HA), it should weigh no more than 1200 lbs - on the heavy side. I am going to be connecting an electric motor straight to the diff. Obviously, weight is a huge issue in an electric car, so the rear axle needs to be seriously lightened.

Those old Jaguar diffs weigh about 95 lbs, does anybody know of anything lighter?

I would say a rear end out of a subaru, independent rear susspension, looks like a miniature winters rearend or corvette rearend. Ive never weighed one but have picked a few up in the 15 years ive worked on subarus. As you can see by the pic they are small but strong also.

Why dont you also look at golf cart stuff? Your project will be about the same performance and range.

golf cart stuff is out of the question. the range with the lithion ion batteries (and custom developed management system) i plan on putting in should be 150+. thanks for the subaru idea though!
