    56 F100 72TBird Frame

     



    My truck rides and handles like a sports car but the small bumps are frame jolting. I put Edelbrock shocks on front and improved tremedously but not enough that it still rattles your teeth when you hit a small bump or patch in the road. Interstates with slab are pretty rough too, unless they are laid ultra smooth. I realize this comes with sports car handling but that wasn't what I had in mind. Could new springs help or am I stuck with what I got?

    My guess would be that the T-Bird weighed a whole lot more than your effie. Softer springs or progressive wound springs should help. Check the weight on your truck and compare it to a T-Bird and you should be able to determine how much you can soften up on the springs.

    Hey mempho,
    Have you thought about an adjustible air ride set up? Can be contolled from right inside the cab. I sound like a comercial on my posts. Sorry, I used to sell the stuff to the parts houses.
    Can you rebuild a Qjet without breaking a nail?

    Weight of Truck

     



    Ya know I thought the weight might make a difference but I'm new to the suspension end. I've thought about going to Flying J or the local weigh station and weighing my truck but wasn't sure if the springs had anything to do with my problem. I've also thought about air on the front but economic situation isn't feasable right now. Thanks for the replys, any others out there? Could I get a second on the spring idea, if so my truck could stand lowering on the front. I've got air shocks on back but to raise them where the rear works ok I could still use lowering the front an inch or two.

    You might try Eaton Spring for some thoughts on your spring situation. They have quite a bit of info available.

    Rather than just a total vehicle weight, do you have any dirt track circle burner friends who have a set of individual wheel weight scales?? These figures, the weight of the stock T-bird (should be available in a Chilton's book), and a freindly parts man with a good catalog and you should be able to get close on the correct weight spring. As light as an Effie is, the rear springs have got to be way too much. Hope this will help you.

    Thanks for the reply guys. I sure wish I could find some individual scales but can't come up with any. I'm sure I probably need lighter springs so I guess I will check out Eaton. I checked out QA1 and they have quite an assortment to choose from. It has been raining so much here haven't been able to get to much done. Thanks again.
