Sport Truck Suspension woes
If you've read the other post's of mine (305 Hot Rod truck). Then you know I'm stubborn. My Prob here is that when I try to find a sport suspension to put on my truck people always ask one of two questions: How much lift do you want?? OR How much do you want to lower it?? What they dont get is that I dont want to Lift it OR Lower it! I Just want to find the very best sport performing suspension I can find. I realize that this will probably involve(definately) changing the stance and hieght. But no one will give me a straight answer because " uhh...duh...all we got is lift kits" OR " err...yeah...lemme see... naah man all we have is lowering shackles....sure you dont wanna slam it?" Nobody seems to know which is best, only which company makes the most radical lift ( " A Bazillion Inches Man!! It's by Rancho Bongo!!!!") or streamlined lowering kit ("Yeah Man!! Its so low you have to toe in your wheels like six inches!!! And then your whole frame scrapes the ground!!") Anyone out there got any tips? I could always read the manufacturers descrip. or some magazine that always writes about the same company winning their editor's choice award. But that's like buying an aligator from a guy with no feet who lives alone. ( Sure he's tame...good with kids too...just remember to feed him twice a day...)

So, what do you want the truck to do when you're done, climb rocks, go thru the mud, handle good on the highway??? If you're just using it on the street and want to firm up the ride, high quality gas shocks and good stabilizers with poly busings will help a lot.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Maybe you should look into the NASCAR racing truck parts. They are set up to handle well at high speed. At least on left turns. Dropping it a couple of inches would help by lowering the center of gravity and would still have enough ground clearance if you're not going off-road with it.

Progressive springs, bigger anti sway bars front and rear, gas shocks. Most well rounded companies can fit you with 1- 2" lower setup (which is FAR from ground scraping) and helps as Al pointed out. If all you get are the impractical extremers you're either asking the wrong people or not explaining what you want to do well enough.

Sorry. I never said what I wanted to do with it. I do think I am asking the wrong people these days. Way back when, the parts suppliers could give you a good idea what each package was good for from thier custom shop because they actually knew about cars. Now days you've got guys working the parts department who not only dont know but also hate thier customers because we are "gearheads" or redneck or something. Not in all cases though. Maybe it's just my moving from redneckville Texas to Granolaberg Washington. I dont know. Well thanks to you who help!!!
