Steering joint source?
I pulled the front fender and put the driver’s side header on the HEMI and remembered why I did the first mockup with manifolds
I do think I can snake the steering around the headers, so now I guess it’s to buy some steering joints and find out for sure. Anybody got a good (cheap) source for them, I’m just hunting for plain steel as once the body’s back on they won’t be seen anyway so I might as well save a few bucks by not having to have the stainless ones.
ThanksI've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Mike, I have used a couple from Speedway. They are decent quality and not so expensive if you get them in black.

Maybe the flex shaft from a Pinto would help you---I used one on my pro stocker which helped with clearance around oil pump and didn't need any u joint at all
As far as cheap plain steel or SS, on rods I have been leaning toward the SS as they don't rust, don't need painting or powdwe coating---

If I was to redo mine, for sure I would use the SS Borgeson or Flaming River. Mine are painted, but already dinged from somethingLast edited by IC2; 09-26-2011 at 12:08 PM.

I've found the speedway black joints to be good quality but the price isn't much different to stainless, it's only a few dollars more so I always use the stainless.
I'm sure you have VW's there and the VW shaft comes with 2 joints on it and are easy to adapt, cheap tooIts aweful lonesome in the saddle since my horse died.

Thanks guys.
I’ve been looking at the speedway stuff and I think that’s the way I’ll be going.....if I can find what I’m looking for, I may have to call them tomorrow.
Jerry I remember those flex shafts, they were a requirement back when I was stuffing 351Ws into Pintos. I don’t think it would do me any good for this one though.
Pat I did the Junk Yard thing when I did the first mockup, and might gone that way again, except I think I’ll end up having to use a couple of double joints to get the shaft around the headers. By the way thanks for mentioning the dowel rod I’m one of the ones who didn’t know that trick.
Dave, when I get the fenders on you won’t even see the headers, let alone the steering under it LOL. I can see what you mean about chips though.
I’ll probably update my build thread a little later and show some pictures on where I’m at with the steering.
Again thanks everyone.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....
Thanks!! I usually do the "NZ Slang" lookup but decided to poke the bear this time! ;):D:p
